All about hair growth

Hey girl, how many times have you heard that you need to cut your hair during the waxing moon to make it grow faster? The phases of the Moon are rumored to heavily influence us and everything around us. Whether it’s the mermaids of Mako, astrologers, or the horoscopes from Superpop, they all say so, but… do you really believe it affects your hair growth? 🤔

If you thought you knew everything about your hair’s growth, keep reading, because this is about to get super interesting.

Do the moon phases affect hair growth?

Legend has it that cutting your hair during a full moon will give you a super thick mane; cutting it during a new moon will leave it fragile; cutting during the waning moon will slow growth; and during the waxing moon, your hair will grow much faster.

As expected, even though the Moon 🌚 has supernatural powers, science has yet to prove that lunar cycles positively or negatively impact hair growth. So, we’ll leave the full moon hair growth story to the werewolves, for now.

What is the hair growth process?

Each strand of hair on your head follows an entirely independent hair cycle, and this cycle has three super important phases: the anagen or growth phase, the catagen or transition phase, and the telogen or resting phase. Okay, we know this might sound complicated, but it’s a much simpler process than it seems.

The anagen phase can last up to 7–8 years and is crucial in determining the length of that strand. About 85% of your hair is in this phase, and the longer this period lasts, the longer your hair will grow! 💘

However, it’s essential to know that this phase is very susceptible to being disrupted by poor diet, hormonal changes, or high-stress periods.

In the catagen phase, which lasts about a month, hair growth stops. During the telogen phase, hair begins to fall out, with about 50 to 150 hairs lost daily. This process usually lasts 2 to 4 months, after which a new hair cycle begins.

How much does hair grow?

Your hair grows about 0.4mm per day, between 1cm and 1.5cm per month, and around 18cm per year. We know it never feels like enough—it doesn’t for us either—but it’s something we can’t change much as it’s largely determined by genetics.

Additionally, as years go by, this process slows down because, believe it or not, hair ages too!

What can I do to help my hair grow?

To achieve the XXL hair of your dreams, you should maintain a healthy diet, trim your ends regularly 💇🏼‍♀️ to prevent breakage, apply your Mask and leave it on for at least 20 minutes, sleep 7–8 hours daily, and avoid stress and bad vibes.

And don’t forget to deeply hydrate and nourish your hair with hydration treatments like Sublime 10.31 for hair that steals the show!
