Why use sulfate-free shampoos?

Girlfriend, how many times have you heard about sulfate-free shampoos? We know, a lot, and that's why today we're bringing you fresh news, and we're talking about why it's so cool to use this type of product to wash our hair. And no, of course we are not going to demonize sulfates, or turn them into the witches of Salem, or tell you that they are toxic (spoiler: they are not), because there is no ingredient in cosmetics that is not safe for us and our hair, we swear!

What are sulfates?

First things first: what are sulfates? They are nothing more and nothing less than anionic surfactants with a great detergent and foaming capacity, (or negatively charged substances that have a brutal cleaning power, and that make a lot of foam, for friends) that are present, in general, in almost all products intended to clean both hair and skin.

Now, if they are so famous, clean so well and are used so much ... why is it so trendy to use hair cosmetics that do not contain them? My friend, as we have already told you in previous chapters, the use of shampoos with a negative charge (such as those containing sulfates), and a high pH, increases friction between hair fibers, and therefore contributes to breakage, not to mention making your hair frizzy like crazy!

In addition, shampoos with sulfates, as they have a higher detergency, drag the dyes much more, so the color of your hair will last intact much less time. The same happens with keratin straightening, since these sulfuric acid salts, by doing their cleaning job so well, also carry away the keratin, making this type of treatment last less time. And that, my dear, is a real drama, because we don't want to lose this amazing mane, do we? 👀

It's also important for you to know that this ability to clean so well has its good things, and its bad things, and that is that it can dry out the scalp a little bit, as there can be an imbalance in sebum production, and that these types of surfactants are never going to be the favs of the most sensitive manes.

Why use sulfate-free shampoos?

Last but not least, and to sum up a bit, we're going to tell you why sulfate-free shampoos have the hype they deserve, and why they are the most recommended by hairdressers and top celebrities like Lily Collins, whose XXL mane in "Emily in Paris" drives us absolutely crazy:

🌈 The sulfate-free shampoosshampoos, despite containing surfactants that are also negatively charged or amphoteric (ideally), are much gentler detergents, reducing the appearance of frizz. reduce the appearance of frizz and breakage at the ends, which we like, AND VERY MUCH.which we like, A LOT.

💖 These gentler surfactantskeep your hair's natural oils on point, keeping sebum production in balance, preventing more sebum from being produced to counteract, and helping to keep hair from drying out even a little bit.

💁🏼‍♀️ Undoubtedly, these are the type of shampoos with which a sensitive scalp is going to have a real crush, as they are super gentle and respectful.

💥 They are also the best to extend the duration of dyes and straightening treatments, as this type ofThey have a lower detergent capacity (but clean just as well), so they do not drag the color or keratin, and that is always a plus.

👩🏽‍🦱 And what's more, they are the ones most used in the very famous curly method!

Although friend, we have to confess that they are shampoos that make less foam (which we know you love and that is super ASMR, sorry), but believe us that it is not necessary to clean your hair thoroughly and leave it super shiny, as our shampoos do:

And you, bestie, will you join the sulfate-free club? You won't regret it! 😍
