How to combat hair loss in autumn

It is estimated that every day we lose an average of 100-150 hairs. In summer and autumn, this hair loss can increase to about 400 hairs, and it is considered a normal figure, as it is part of the seasonal hair loss.

If you have noticed that lately you are losing more hair than usual in the shower or on your pillow… don’t worry, in most cases it is completely normal, especially in autumn. Today, we tell you all the details about hair loss, take note.

For many people, the arrival of autumn brings increased hair loss, but there is no need to be alarmed as in most cases this loss is part of the hair cycle. This process is known as the follicular renewal cycle because it affects the hair follicles, which is where our hair grows from and is made up of growth phases and shedding phases, which we will see in detail below.

In this cycle, specialists state that hair does not fall out, but rather renews itself. They point out that all hairs that fall out in autumn are recovered and reappear naturally after three or four months.

What is the structure of hair?

The structure of hair is universal, that is, it is the same in all people regardless of hair color or type. Its structure is divided into two parts: the shaft, which is the visible and dead part, and the hair follicle, which is the internal, living part where the hair is born.

Additionally, hair has its own life cycle and each hair is a completely independent entity. This life cycle is divided into 3 phases:

✨ Anagen – 3 years: This is the hair growth phase, where we grow about 1 cm per month.

🌈 Catagen – 2 to 3 weeks: In this phase, hair growth stops.

✂️ Telogen – 3 to 6 months: This is when, once growth has stopped, the papilla contracts and makes room for new hair growth inside the follicle.  Once the telogen phase has ended and our hair returns to the anagen phase, the papilla reactivates, new hair grows, and this pushes out the old follicle: this is when hair loss is perceived.

At what time of year does hair fall out the most?

The seasons of the year influence the hair cycle in animals. In humans, something similar happens; both the photoperiod (duration of daylight) and the seasons hormonally change aspects that modify the telogen effluvium phase causing hair loss.

In temperate countries, this hair loss becomes more evident in autumn and spring due to changes in natural light. These variations affect the body's rhythm, alternating the cycles of hair growth and renewal. Even so, factors such as diet, hormonal changes like pregnancy, or taking certain medications can also cause hair loss.

What to do to stop hair loss?

💇🏼 Cut to the chase:

Cutting, even minimally, especially after summer, will help hair gain strength and vitality. It will also keep the ends healthy and beautiful.

🥑 Pamper your mane with your favorite hair mask

It is very important to care for and pamper your hair after summer. You can take advantage of returning to your routine to dedicate a day to pampering and full relaxation. We recommend applying your hair mask from mid-lengths to ends and leaving it on as long as possible during your quiet time. This way, while doing other tasks, we take advantage and hydrate the hair.

👩🏽🍳 A balanced diet:

Maintaining a good, healthy, and balanced diet is essential to ensure proper follicle function and have healthy hair. The clearest example is in hypocaloric diets or iron deficiency situations that end up leading to significant hair loss.

💖 Nourish hair from the inside out:

The best way to help our hair is to give it an extra dose of vitamins, especially A, B group, and H (or biotin) - and sulfur-rich amino acids (cystine, methionine), which are essential for hair keratin. These active ingredients are found in our treatment Sublime 10·31, the hydration and reconstruction treatment that works regenerating completely from the inside out, restoring hair to a healthy state and rejuvenating its appearance.

It manages to deeply reconstruct the damaged structure of frayed and weakened hair, reintegrating proteins, increasing shine, softness, strength, and moisture. It is proven that the deficiency of these vitamins and amino acids causes hair loss and that their mission is to promote healthy hair growth.

💆🏽 Perform circular massages:

Using the fingertips when washing your head, as these promote microcirculation.

⚡️ Use wide-tooth combs:

To avoid pulling and apply South Bondi to detangle your hair.

🔥 Avoid heat tools:

If using a hairdryer, keep it at a minimum distance of 30 centimeters, with cold air. Before drying, we recommend applying a small amount of South Bondi to the palm of your hand and distributing it evenly from mid-lengths to ends to facilitate detangling and provide heat protection and softness.

It is important to reduce the use of hair straighteners, curling irons, etc., for the proper maintenance of hair health.

💦  Wash your hair with appropriate and non-aggressive products:

Choose the shampoo that matches your hair. Our shampoos are free of sulfates, parabens, petrolatums, paraffins, and a long list of ingredients we decided not to use to avoid the makeup effect they produce on hair.
